First Reconciliation 2019

The Sacraments are a wonderful gift to us from God inviting us into deeper intimacy with Him. So that children can gain the full benefit of the experience, the preparation is vitally important. Unlike Baptism and Confirmation, Reconciliation is a sacrament that can be received as often as one wants, and it strengthens us with grace each time it is received. Candidates need to be Catholic and in year two or above to make their First Reconciliation.

First Reconciliation Preparation Program

First Reconciliation is typically offered to children in Year 2. We believe this is the youngest young a child can understand the meaning of ‘doing wrong’ and asking for forgiveness in a meaningful way.

Our Parish offers two Reconciliation ceremonies each year: one for the children who attend Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School, and one for children who attend other local private and public schools.

Children Attending OLR Primary School
Children who attend OLR Primary School will be prepared for their First Reconciliation by their school. They can obtain information about their program from their school.

Children attending other local private and public schools
Children will participate in a series of preparation sessions that are taught by volunteer catechists (teachers) from the parish of Our Lady of the Rosary. Our catechists have extensive experience in working with children and meet all the required clearances of both the NSW Government, and the Archdiocese of Sydney.

Their preparation will consist of four sessions which should be attended by the enrolled child and a parent. There is also a parent briefing morning, and a rehearsal.

The program uses the Gratia Series and parent participation is an essential part of the preparation and we do expect attendance at all four of the preparation sessions, except of course in the case of illness. Sunday Mass attendance is also an important part of the program and for this reason our sessions are timed to commence at the conclusion of morning Mass on Sunday.

Parent Briefing Session
10.45am Sunday 4th August 2019. Children are not required to attend the parent briefing, but are most welcome.

Our preparation session dates for 2019 are as follows:
10.45am Sunday 11th August
10.45am Sunday 18th August
10.45am Sunday 25th August
10.45am Sunday 1st September
10.45am Sunday 8th September (Rehearsal)

Each weekly preparation session lasts 1 hour and all materials are provided.

First Reconciliation Ceremony

The First Reconciliation Ceremony includes a family Mass followed by individual Reconciliation for the enrolled children. This Mass is a special celebration for the children and their families to share in and all are welcome.

Our 2019 First Reconciliation ceremony will take place at 6.30pm on Tuesday 10th September. The ceremony lasts approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Children are not required to buy special outfits for the Sacrament, however they are required to dress appropriately. A general guide is how they would dress to attend a family wedding. Boys should wear long trousers and a shirt with a collar, no jeans, cargo pants or joggers. Girls should wear a dress or skirt/top, and no bare midriffs or shoulders please.

Enrolment

A copy of the child’s Baptism certificate is required as well as the permission of both parents. Please enrol using the form below, or if you prefer, visit the parish office where your details will be entered for you. Please note, students at OLR Primary School should enrol through the School.

Cost

The cost per child is $20 per child and is payable at the time of enrolment either to the Parish house during office hours, or at the parent Information session. No child will ever be denied the opportunity to receive the Sacraments due to financial limitations. Families in difficult financial circumstances should contact the parish office to discuss their situation confidentially.
